PINK, AN IN-BETWEENER’S COLOUR

My favourite colour is pink

I am a male. And that’s a problem

“Pink is for girls”  goes the stereotype

I can never be myself-

I am always supposed to conform to traditional gender assignments

But including even just a mere colour?

It’s no wonder though;

Pink is warm, pink is soft, and peaceful

Yet the male stereotype is aggressive, tough, and hostile

They can’t relate to it.

So then, where am I placed in such a setting?

Am I the inbetweener of assigned male and female?

On one hand, the male is not even supposed to have any favourite colour

“It is girlish,” they would chuckle.

A male is assigned to not being human.

That even their liberty to a colour choice is scorned

But as for me, I am a revolutionary

My favourite colour is pink!
