The history and story of our planet is filled with numerous atrocities that have involved gross violations of each other’s rights. From ethnic cleansing, groups that preach hate against others, wars and more, the darkest side of human nature has been exposed. Many leaders and members of our communities, past and present have encouraged division. Today with the rise of nationalism, one may worry about what kind of danger the “us versus them” rhetoric may breed.
Martin Luther King Jr., through ministry and activism became a prominent voice and leader in the civil rights movement. He advanced civil rights through nonviolent tactics and civil disobedience. With our world immensely divided. There is a lot to learn from a leader who advocated for kindness and a change of spirit as ways to heal the ills of society.
Quotes that remind us that kindness is a powerful tool to end injustice:
